PORTFOLIO.diptychs

Formally and thematically I work with a square and a rectangle of two squares: I rediscovered this proportion from the Japanese tatami mat, a place for one to lie down or two to sit together, being alone or with others. A tatami mat is about three feet wide and six feet long, the proportion of the human body. When I visited Japan in 2004, I was taken with the harmony and quiet beauty of homes built for 300 years based on this double square module.
